District Context

Old Edgebrook District is listed as Chicago landmark district number 47. It was designated on December 14, 1988, and the city currently describes the extent as A three-square-block area surrounded by the Cook County Forest Preserve, and roughly bounded by Caldwell and Devon (6400N) on the north, Central Ave. (5500E) on the east, and the North Branch of the Chicago River on the west. Laid out in 1894. Old Edgebrook District preserves a frame large enough for street layout and parcel rhythm, contributing buildings and shared fabric, and district-scale preservation decisions to be read together.
