Working Copies
How the public article layer can become a workspace record set, without changing the public record itself.
Documentation Summary
Working copies at a glance
Updated

Where it starts
On a research article with linked location records behind it.
What happens
The linked location or location set is copied into your workspace.
Why it matters
You get your own record set to continue from without editing the public article source.
Privacy
Working copies use opaque private URLs rather than title-based slugs.
1. Create a working copy from an article
When a research article is connected to linked location records, the article page can offer an Add To My Workspace action. That copies the source location or location set into your workspace.
If a copy already exists for that article bundle, the page can route you back to the existing working copy instead of duplicating it again.
2. What a working copy includes
- A workspace location record or linked set created inside your own account.
- Preserved internal links between copied locations when the article is built from multiple place points.
- Source provenance so the workspace location can still point back to the public article it came from.
- A place to continue notes, map work, Sanborn review, and AI-assisted follow-up privately.
3. Keep public and private work separate
The public article remains the public article. Your working copy is not the same record. That separation lets Urban Lithograph keep the public research layer stable while still giving members a place to keep moving the work forward.
