A Tower Built For Manufacturing

The National Register nomination places the Ziock Building clearly in Rockford's industrial history. It was not a small warehouse or a back-lot factory block. It was a thirteen-story manufacturing facility at the edge of downtown, built for William H. Ziock's enterprises at a scale that still reads as audacious.

That height gives the building much of its force. The Ziock tower made industrial confidence visible on the skyline.

One Building, Several Names

The building's changing names tell part of the story on their own. Ziock, Tower Building, and Amerock all attach to the same address, which helps show how industrial identity shifted while the structure remained in place.

Instead of treating each phase as a different place, the building lets them accumulate in one form.

Hotel Reuse Put The Tower Back Into Daily Life

Rock River Current's 2023 report on the Midway Village exhibit shows the building in a new but still public-facing phase. The former manufacturing tower is now the downtown Embassy Suites, with a history display inside that ties the hotel back to Rockford's industrial past.

The reuse leaves the building active without flattening it into generic hospitality space. The tower still reads as a landmark first.
