Why New Momentum Still Counts as Carryover

Taylor's Mill is stronger than it was when it first appeared on Preservation New Jersey's endangered list, but strength and security are not the same thing. A public concept plan, supportive advocacy, and a clearer reuse identity all matter, yet none of them stabilizes a site on their own.

That is why the mill remains a carryover monitor rather than a resolved success. The site has moved into a better phase, but it is still living inside the long gap between vision and durable preservation.

What the Site Still Holds Beyond the Building

Taylor's Mill works as a preservation case because it is more than a surviving industrial structure. It is also a Revolutionary-era landscape, a mill site tied to transportation and waterpower, and a rural edge where public history can still be felt spatially rather than only narrated.

That larger setting is part of what makes the site important. If the preservation effort narrows too far to a symbolic building without the landscape logic around it, the strongest part of the place can still be thinned out.

Why the Real Test Is Delivery

The encouraging development here is that Taylor's Mill now has a future people can describe. The harder part is whether partnerships, money, design work, and long-term management will line up well enough to carry that vision into reality.

That tension gives the site value in a carryover batch. It shows the moment where preservation begins to look possible, but still has to prove itself in the real world.
