Where Waterpower Became Downtown Form

Aurora's Stolp Island page begins with the physical fact that shaped the city: the drop in the Fox River. That drop drew early milling and industrial activity to the island, giving Aurora a power source before the city had a finished downtown identity.

Seen that way, Stolp Island was never simply a scenic middle ground. It was an engine for urban form, drawing work, bridges, and later commercial ambition onto the same river island.
