District Context

Motor Row District enters the city's landmark system as district number 39. Chicago dates the district designation to December 13, 2000, with the current extent summarized as Michigan Avenue and portions of Wabash and Indiana, between Cermak and I-55, plus individual buildings at 1444, 1457, 1737, 1925 and 2000 S. Michigan Avenue; 1905- 1936; various architects. Motor Row District stays legible at the scale where corridor form and commercial concentration, street-level business fabric, and district-scale preservation of an economic landscape actually interact.

Motor Row District becomes physically clearer when site notes compare storefront rhythm, loading conditions, and corner emphasis, upper-floor continuity and shared facade lines, and later signage, vacancy, or adaptive reuse.
