Why the East District Cannot Be Reduced to One Address

The east district has remained unresolved because its preservation question was never confined to one structure. The issue is whether the original CMD plan can still be read across multiple streets once buildings are altered, reused, or simply allowed to slip out of public discussion.

CMD East District faces interpretive drift as one of its real dangers. The place can fall out of public language before it falls into any clearly safer condition.

CMD East is therefore handled as unresolved rather than simply older. The clock on the list year changed, but the preservation question did not.

What the District Anchors Still Show

Continental Can on Ashland, the Iron Street interior, and the western edge along South Western still make the east district spatially understandable. Those anchors reveal circulation, service space, and frontage as parts of one planned industrial system.

At CMD East District, the broader frame is especially revealing because many endangered places become harder to interpret once annual publicity fades, even though the underlying vulnerability remains.

CMD East District therefore takes on a role different from a fresh annual listing. The district becomes a bridge between older alarm and present uncertainty.

Why a Carryover Record Fits the Site

District stories often age badly on annual watchlists because no single update captures what changed. CMD East needs a steadier frame for comparing parcel turnover against the longer industrial plan.

Continued treatment keeps the historical thread alive until parcel-level verification catches up with a district-scale story. Unresolved status becomes a usable research frame instead of a passive holding category.

For that reason, CMD East still cannot be allowed to fade from public view. The unresolved condition is itself part of the story.
