Scheduled for October 10–November 1, Alice’s Adventures in Autumn carries the conservatory’s Wonderland setting into chrysanthemum season.

Phipps Conservatory is preparing to change seasons inside a familiar story. Its announced Fall Flower Show, Alice’s Adventures in Autumn, is scheduled to open October 10, 2026, and run through November 1. The show retains the Wonderland theme of the summer installation while changing its planting and atmosphere for autumn. [1]

Rooms become scenes

The visitor listing describes a cobweb-covered Cheshire Cat setting in Palm Court, chrysanthemum obelisks in the Sunken Garden, and an autumn version of the Mad Hatter’s table in the East Room. These are announced features of the forthcoming show, not observations from a visit. [2]

Moving the story from room to room gives the architecture an active role. Each enclosure becomes a setting with a particular mood and scale. A visitor following the fictional world also encounters the conservatory as a sequence of distinct spaces, rather than a single hall filled with plants.

A short display takes long preparation

Phipps credits Laura Schoch with the show’s design and describes a full year of horticultural planning, growing, and training behind its chrysanthemum displays. The brief public run is the visible end of a much longer production cycle. [1]

That timing is part of the appeal of seasonal conservatory shows. Their materials are living things, so color and form depend on preparation carried out well before opening day. Urban Lithograph reads the autumn changeover as another kind of care for the historic building: the rooms remain useful because people keep finding new ways to work within them.

An old building with a changing interior

Phipps opened in 1893 with nine rooms designed and built by Lord & Burnham. Its first displays included plants from Chicago’s World’s Columbian Exposition. The present seasonal show belongs to a long institutional history of arranging plants for public viewing, although its story and installation are contemporary. [3]

For a visit, use the show’s current ticket page to confirm availability and arrangements. Phipps gives One Schenley Park as its main address and 700 Frank Curto Drive as its GPS locator. Both refer to the conservatory destination; the map accompanies the building, not an individual room in the exhibition. [2][4]

The October opening offers a reason to return to a familiar landmark and notice how much its experience can change while the building stays in place. The seasonal installation is temporary, but the work of renewing the public garden continues.
